This collection is a series of single-focus surreal illustrative paintings.
From afar, each piece is designed to be unassuming, but up-close, the combination of subject matters introduces a sense of discomfort. Within this series, I maintain the same elements: severed hands, the object being held- often something from nature, and a halo disc or ring.
My works present a retrospective of experiences lived through the window of the anxious mind. These pieces are snapshots of constant grasps to remain present within fleeting chaotic moments. I use and include anatomy as a tool to weigh down the image and pull it back slightly from the surreal. Contrasting the need to stray from surrealism is my integration of decorative elements, like the use of silver or gold leaf and ink, which serves to provide necessary luminosity for a heavy topic.
